PARTNER PROFILE - Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity

Tacoma Pierce County Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Mission: Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God's love and can live and grow into all that God intends.

Recent efforts:

The local affiliate is gearing up for The House That Students Build 2005. This is a build where youth both sponsor and build a Habitat home. If you are interested in participating, or want more information, please contact Sarah at 253-627-5626 or smartyn@tpc-habitat.org. United Way of Pierce County is partnering on this project in an effort to recruit more teens and help them achieve their goal. Building is slated to begin in the spring.

Habitat builds year-round in Tacoma, and this year they will completed 16 homes; among them their 100th home in Pierce County. Among the homes completed this year is one for Karin Escobar and her children.
