United Way Hits Jackpot
With Gift From Emerald Queen Casino
April 22, 2002
Who would ever have thought an editorial would
lead to a $50,000 gift? That is exactly what happened when
the Emerald Queen Casino provided United Way of Pierce County
with a record breaking first time corporate gift.
The gift was in response to United Way of Pierce
County President Rick Allens editorial column in the
Sunday, April 14th edition of The News Tribune. In his column
Allen requested that local companies not currently supporting
the organization step forward in a common effort to help impact
key community issues on a broad scale.
Allen also indicated in his column that unless
nonparticipating companies get on board the community-wide
effort known as United Way, the safety net that is funded
by the organization is likely to see some tremendous cutbacks
in the near future.
"We felt it was important that we step
forward and help protect the human services in Pierce County,
Frank Wright, General Manager, Emerald Queen Casino. We
have seen the work United Way is doing in our community and
we were impressed with the result oriented impacts they are
making throughout Pierce County.
We are more than thrilled and excited
with the wonderful news from the Emerald Queen Casino and
the Tribal Council, Allen, said. We are very appreciative
of the Emerald Queens generosity and commitment to support
our community in what is a critical time for human services
in Pierce County. We are hopeful that the Emerald Queen will
also host a campaign, which would allow its employees to place
a gift to their community through United Way.
