January 9, 2004

High School seniors who have completed at least 50 hours of community service during the past year are eligible to earn a Willie Stewart Community Service Scholarship through the United Way of Pierce County. Please note that this scholarship opportunity is only available to seniors attending high schools in Pierce County.

Scholarships in the amount of $250-$500 will be given to graduating seniors who are going on to further their education and who have spent a minimum of 50 hours in the past year serving their community.

Scholarships are funded through the annual Willie Stewart Community Service Golf Classic. Individuals and businesses from throughout the county join Willie Stewart to sponsor the tournament and the net proceeds go to the scholarship fund. Additional scholarship proceeds are provided through Youth United, a United Way of Pierce County program designed to increase youth volunteerism and involvement in the community.
