New Board Members Announced
at Annual Meeting
April 9, 2002
More than 200 local executives and community
leaders attended the United Way of Pierce County Annual Meeting
on Tuesday, April 9th at The Tacoma Club, where they learned
about the 2001 community accomplishments and gained insight
on the condition of human services in Pierce County. In addition,
the new Board of Directors and Board Chair were announced
at the 7:30 a.m. breakfast meeting.
The 2002 board of directors officers include:
Mark Crisson, Tacoma Public Utilities, Chair; Michael Turek,
Boeing, Chair-Elect; Lorie Green, Columbia Bank, Treasurer;
and Maria Casella, State Farm Insurance, Secretary.
New board members include: Roger Boatwright,
Trades Council AFL-CIO; Stan Eastberg, Weyerhaeuser; Benita
Johnson, Labor Ready; Rod Koon, Port of Tacoma; Vicki Thompson,
Frank Russell Company.
Retiring board members include: John Hall, Rainier
Pacific Bank; Tom Hilyard, Department of Social and Health
Services; Bob Lenigan, State Employees Local 793; David Montevideo,
South Hill Mall; and Kent Robert, Agrilink Foods.
Immediately following the meeting, many of the
local CEOs and top-level business leaders in attendance
rolled up their sleeves and participated in the Executive
Day of Caring. Executives spent the remainder of the day performing
a number of projects for 10 local funded agencies and nonprofit
organizations. Some of the projects for the day included:
painting a kitchen for the Tacoma Area Coalition of Individuals
with Disabilities (TACID), building a wheelchair ramp for
former United Way of Pierce County Board Chair Mildred Baker,
and preparing lunch for homeless individuals at the Tacoma
Rescue Mission.
I really enjoy the Executive Day of Caring
because it offers a first hand look at how local human service
agencies are changing the lives of so many people in such
a positive manner, Mark Crisson, 2002 United Way of
Pierce County Board Chair and Director of Utilities, Tacoma
Public Utilities, said. The more business partners can
interact and understand the needs of our community, the stronger
and healthier Pierce County will be in the future.
