Back to School Assists Local
Families
August 4, 2003
United Way of Pierce County and the Prevention
Partnership for Children are helping disadvantaged kids start
the new school year off right by supplying school supplies.
Many area children don't have the necessary
supplies to start school in the fall. The goal of the Back-to-School
program is to collect new school supplies and distribute them
to disadvantaged kids at the Center's Back-to-School celebration
in late August.
Individuals and organizations can get involved
by sponsoring a child, holding a school supply drive, or making
a monetary donation toward the purchase of school supplies.
Donations are being accepted at all Walts' Radiator and Muffler
locations through August 17 and at the South Hill Mall
through the end of August. Donations may also be dropped off
at the United Way of Pierce County office in Tacoma until
August 29.
Supplies needed are: backpacks, pencils, pens,
markers, lunch boxes, pencil boxes, folders, crayons, colored
pencils, paper, notebooks, scissors, calculators, glue, rulers,
erasers, watercolor paints, binders, and new clothing.
