    United Way of Pierce County announced, thanks to the generosity of our community, Pierce County met the $1.75 million match and celebrated a record fundraising campaign that far exceeded any year in over 85 years.


    Rainier Pacific Bank Named Spirit of Pierce County Winner

    Rainier Pacific Bank believes in making a difference in our community and its commitment is real. The Bank's United Way campaign has grown over the past few years to become a benchmark for others. Rainier Pacific employees have contributed time and talent for the last decade to United Way's Days of Caring.

    The Rainier Pacific Foundation, formed in October 2003, will distribute nearly $500,000 to non profit organizations in the Pierce County and Federal Way geographic areas. Those funds support programs that help underserved populations with a focus on education, healthcare, and community service.

    From CEO John Hall to the tellers in every branch location, Rainier Pacific staff truly care about their community. United Way could not ask for a more committed, more dependable partner in our mission to make measurable improvements in the lives of people living in Pierce County.     Award Winners Honored at Warm Your Heart

    United Way honored several organizations for their role in the community campaign at the United Way of Pierce County Warm Your Heart Celebration held April 17th at the Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center in Tacoma.

    Award winners demonstrate exceptional commitment to making Pierce County a better place to live. For their exemplary efforts and leadership, we honor them with the highest form of recognition.


    New Board of Directors Inducted

    United Way of Pierce County announced its new board officers and new board members at its board meeting, Friday, April 27 at the Columbia Bank Building.

    The 2007 officers include: Board Chair - Jo Anne Coy, Columbia Bank; Chair-Elect - Scott Winship, Vandeberg, Johnson, & Gandara; Secretary - Mike Turek, The Boeing Company; and Treasurer - Donna Haynes, Pilkey-Hopping & Ekberg, Inc.

    New board members include: Jawana Cain, Tacoma- Pierce County Employment and Training Consortium; Tyler Kalberg, Russell Investment Group; BG Gary Magonigle, Washington National Guard, James (Jamey) W. McCormick, Messina Bulzomi Christensen; Kent Roberts, Columbia Bank; and Cynthia Winder, The News Tribune.

    United Way of Pierce County is a volunteer-led organization where board members and other key volunteers are responsible for making vital decisions within the organization.


    Impacting Our Community

    United Way of Pierce County, working in collaboration with several community partners, has written a comprehensive plan to increase the quality of early learning in Pierce County. The overall goal of this plan is to make Pierce County the most progressive early learning community in the country.
