  • Day of Caring Draws More Than 1,100 Volunteers
    day

United Way of Pierce County hosted a near record number of volunteers as part of the 2006 Day of Caring volunteer event, Friday September 22nd. More than 1,100 community volunteers spent the day completing 72 service projects for nonprofits throughout Pierce County for a 'Day of Caring'.

The Day of Caring event allows volunteers to partner with local organizations to build a stronger community. By volunteering for Day of Caring, community members learn more about agency programs and how volunteering can make a positive impact on the problems affecting our community.

This effort is led by 2006 Campaign Chair Craig Ueland and a team of Tocqueville donors including member and Tocqueville Society Chair Joanne Bamford. Other committee members include Charley Bingham, Bob Magee, Mike Rogers, Steve Hill, Linda Gutmann and Dorothy Lewis.

    Impacting Our Community

    United Way Joins Statewide Partnership

United Way recently rolled out a partnership with Washington After-school Network (WAN) and School’s Out Washington (SOWA) to promote high quality after-school experiences for children and youth. As a Steering Committee member, UWPC has pledged $45,000 in resources to this project over the next three years.

Through this partnership, the group will work to secure resources needed to sustain new and existing after-school programs and ensure that programs are of high quality. The partnership will also address the barriers that limit participation in after-school activities. These barriers include cost, transportation and awareness.
