Frequently Asked Questions - 2006 Community Challenge Match
You x 2
Q: So, how does this Community Challenge Match work?
A: If you are a new supporter of United Way of Pierce County, your entire gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar when you give to the Community Solutions Fund. If you are an existing United Way donor, increase your 2006 gift and every dollar above what you gave in 2005 will be matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis as long as it goes to the Community Solutions Fund.
Q: Where will my 2006 Community Challenge dollars go?
A: Gifts to the Community Solutions Fund in 2006 will fund more than 116 vital safety net programs in Pierce County, increase dental care for low-income children, create a safe place for kids to go after school and provide housing for working families.
Q: How much money is available through the Challenge Match?
A: The 2006 Challenge Match is currently $1.75 million, and we are hopeful it could be up to
$2 million if additional Challenge Match donors join in.
Q: Where did the Challenge Match come from?
A: The Challenge Match was created through the generosity of Craig and Niki Ueland, Russell Investment Group, George and Dion Russell and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Q: Last year I gave $100 through United Way split evenly between the Community Solutions Fund and the YMCA. This year I plan to give $125 to the Community Solutions Fund. What part will be matched?
A: Your pledge increased by $25 and you designated the full increase to the Community Solutions Fund. Therefore, $25 will be matched.
Q: I’ve never given to United Way before. What part of my gift will be doubled?
A: As a new United Way donor, every dollar you give to the Community Solutions Fund will be doubled.
Q: What happens if we don’t meet the Challenge Match?
A: The Challenge Match has pledges totaling $1.75 million. If our community raises $1 million in new or increased pledges to the Community Solutions Fund, the Challenge Match will contribute
$1 million to the campaign. If our community raises $500,000 the Challenge Match will contribute $500,000 to the campaign.
Q: If I live outside of Pierce County, will my gift be matched?
A: If you are a direct supporter of United Way of Pierce County’s Community Solutions Fund, your increased gift will be matched.
Q: Are my contributions to specific United Way of Pierce County supported agencies also eligible for the new matching program?
A: No, only new contributions made specifically to the Community Solutions Fund qualify for the Challenge Match. Our Challenge Match funders intent is to support the broadest possible impacts via the Community Solutions Fund.
Q: Our company campaign doesn’t start until January 2007. How can I contribute to this?
A: Any qualifying pledges made by April 15, 2007 will be matched.
