Your Gift Turns Victims into Survivors

Caroline didn’t expect her relationship to become abusive. She never anticipated she would have to flee and that it would be too dangerous for her to stay with family or friends. Like many domestic violence victims, she never thought she and her baby would have to struggle to have a safe home or the things they needed.

Each month, 200 to 300 families in Pierce County seek shelter from domestic violence situations. Often they leave with little more than the clothes on their backs.

United Way of Pierce County’s Community Solutions Fund supports 126 programs throughout the community. By funding multiple programs, United Way helps provide services for those with multiple needs. For many domestic violence victims that means shelter, counseling and childcare services are available.

When Caroline’s life changed, she turned to the Safe Choices program at Exodus Housing in Sumner. There she received the shelter and support she needed to get back on her feet.
