Mentoring helped Jeremy become Youth of the Year.

All too often we hear about troubled teens...they don't know where to turn for attention and support, and they get in trouble. That's what makes the headlines. Nonetheless, Jeremy Rubin, and 8,340 other youth got attention, support, and leadership skills through the Boys and Girls Clubs of Pierce County. Jeremy's made a few of his own headlines this year.

Leadership is Jeremy's middle name, but it wasn't easy. He grew up in a household that included his mom, stepfather and brother, but Jeremy's biological father wasn't around. His father tried at times to spend time with Jeremy and his brother, but soon the promises went unfulfilled, and Jeremy was disappointed and frustrated.

At the Al Davies Boys & Girls Club, the director, coaches, and volunteers served as strong mentors and powerful male role models for Jeremy. They taught him to focus his energy away from anger towards his father into striving at sports, academics and leadership. Their mentoring taught Jeremy about giving back to his community.

So it's not surprising that last year Jeremy was named the football captain and student body president at Foss High School. He most recently earned the title of Youth of the Year for the Western Region of Boys & Girls Clubs. Jeremy has made his family, his mentors at the Boys & Girls Clubs, and all Pierce County proud.

United Way funded programs like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Pierce County are at the heart of building relationships between people in need and people who can help. Thank you for your continued support.
