After only a few months Nikolay learned basic English

As a recent refugee from the former Soviet Union, Nikolay Mokan spoke no English and was unable to get a job and support his family. The family was referred to Tacoma Community House, a United Way member agency, and was able to work with a bilingual job developer.

After only a few months Nikolay learned basic English and found a job working as a master carpenter.

Nikolay is only one of 3,795 people who receive English Second Language (ESL) or job readiness training through United Way funded programs each year.

Programs like those at Tacoma Community House are at the heart of building relationships between people in need and people who can help. Thank you for your continued support.
