Eatonville is a community where 10% of all families live below the poverty level. Last year, a family with small children was just one of many struggling to get food.
Hunger is far more severe in western Washington than the rest of the nation for those relying on food banks - largely because of the high cost of living. Every month in Pierce County 140,000 people rely on food banks and hot meal sites to get the nutrition they need.
To respond to the problem, United Way of Pierce County funds three food programs through the Community Solutions Fund, serving 6,068 people throughout Pierce County. The food bank at the Eatonville Family Agency is just one of them.
The mother was so grateful for the help that she volunteered there for six months. Eventually she was hired as a member of the staff. Now, she helps put food on the table for other families and their kids.
Giving through United Way of Pierce County is changing reality. This year, you can do more than ever before by giving to the Community Solutions Fund. Make the most of your gift. Give through United Way.
