A Message from Our President
Since 1921, United Way of Pierce County has been at the heart of creating opportunities for lasting change. Through our safety net of services, and with the gracious help of our many volunteers and donors, we are making measurable improvements and creating solutions to the most critical needs in our area. As our community grows in size and diversity, new service needs emerge. It is our chief priority to be aware of these changing social paradigms and be prepared to act. In 2004, we launched a community assessment to identify the most pressing needs in Pierce County. Housing availability, child and youth development and access to healthcare were determined to be primary focus areas. We are now working with partners to solve these problems.
In addition to creating opportunities for those in need, it is equally important that we help create links of unity between individuals, businesses, organizations and communities. With a variety of programs throughout the year, we make it easier for these groups to connect through gifts of time, talent, money and products. We also work with other United Way organizations regionally and nationally, to ensure that volunteers and donors have a seamless experience connecting to their communities no matter where they live or work.
United Way of Pierce County is proud to be a service to the community. We are equally proud to be recognized as a leading charitable organization. This year we received our third consecutive four out of four stars rating from Charity Navigator! This is no easy feat. According to the Charity Navigator, “Only 9% of the charities we’ve rated have received three consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating UWPC outperforms most charities in America.” Our four star rating symbolizes our care and dedication to the Pierce County community as we persist in putting our best foot forward for the welfare of each and every resident.
For now and for always, we will continue to improve the education, income and health of every Pierce County resident as we give to those who need a helping hand, advocate for those who’s voice may not otherwise be heard, and empower all to realize their potential to impact the lives of others through volunteerism.
