Community Needs Forecast - June 2011

Every year, economic forecasts are made by chambers of commerce, municipal entities and the federal government. Three years ago, Pamela Duncan-Pierce, United Way of Pierce County’s Director of Community Assessment & Investment, asked, “What does Pierce County’s Community needs look like?” Social services are not typically mentioned in economic forecasts and yet they are the pulse of the community. The 2011 Community Needs Forecast provided an opportunity for our community to hear about economic conditions, how to leverage existing resources, and learn specifics about education, employment and social services.

This year’s Forecast addressed the issues of unemployment and housing foreclosures. A panel of experts was brought together to talk about what they were doing to address the situation; what problems and challenges they faced; what options they were considering and finally; if the panel were called back in six months, what realistic outcomes would they foresee.

The following podcasts are a series of in-depth conversations recorded following United Way of Pierce County’s third annual Community Needs Forecast held June 2011.
