Leadership
Day of Caring
Each spring, many of the local CEO's and top-level business leaders participate in the Leadership Day of Caring, spending the morning performing a number of projects for local funded agencies and non-profit organizations.
I
really enjoy the Day of Caring because it offers
a first hand look at how local human service agencies are
changing the lives of so many people in such a positive manner,
Mark Crisson, 2002 United Way of Pierce County Board Chair
and Director of Utilities, Tacoma Public Utilities, said.
The more business partners can interact and understand
the needs of our community, the stronger and healthier Pierce
County will be in the future.

Community Day of Caring
United Way of Pierce County is at the heart of connecting the resources of people who can help with people who need an extra hand. In 2006, more than 1200 volunteers from more than 40 organizations contributed their time and trade to complete 61 projects at nonprofit agencies throughout Pierce County through our Day of Caring events.
Join us for Day of Caring scheduled for September 19, 2008.
Our annual Day of Caring event connects volunteers with local nonprofit organizations to complete projects that may not otherwise get done. Projects range from taking children on a field trip to adding a fresh coat of paint on the walls of a transitional home. Day of Caring also provides an opportunity to develop long-lasting relationships with colleagues and other community members. Day of Caring volunteers help to build a stronger community.

Youth
Day of Caring
More than 350 middle and high school students participated
last year in the United Way of Pierce County Youth Day of
Caring event. After breakfast and a rally, more than 100 community
members teamed up with the youth volunteers from over 40 schools,
churches and other local community organizations to complete
various projects from cleaning and painting to interacting
with seniors and children.
Volunteering
for Youth Day of Caring demonstrates the impact youth can
make in their communities and it celebrates the legacy of
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event also provides an opportunity
for teens to learn more about community problems and how volunteering
can make a positive impact on the problems.
