in Community Service Application

Each year, United Way of Pierce County partners with Pierce County schools to recognize and reward students for their volunteer efforts in the community. Students who volunteer 145 hours or more of service in a year can earn a school varsity letter, the same as those earned by athletes and musicians. Applicants mus meet the following basic qualifications:
- Be a student in grades 9-12 in Pierce County
- Complete at least 145 hours of community services from April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2009
- At least 50 of the total hours MUST be in a non school-related activity
- Have at least one school-related volunteer activity
- All volunteer activities must be verifiable
What are the benefits of lettering
in community service?
When you earn a letter in community service,
you will receive a patch and certificate designating that
you have fulfilled the requirements to be honored as service
leader in Pierce County. Thanks to the United Way of Pierce
County, these items will be provided at no cost to you and
will serve as proof of your commitment to serving others.
You will also:
Appeal to perspective colleges and employers
by distinguishing yourself from other students.
Have fun with your friends while doing something
different and meaningful.
Develop leadership skills by helping others.
Gain hours toward earning a Willie
Stewart Community Service Scholarship.
