IRS
Substantiation & Games of Chance
IRS
Substantation
On the bottom of every pledge form you will notice this statement:
"This pledge card constitutes
official confirmation that meets IRS requirements for substantiation
should you be audited. No goods or services were received in
return for this donation."
This statement
is provided as a courtesy to donors who give through United
Way. Please make sure that you let your company representative
and co-workers know they will need to save the pink copy of
their pledge card for tax purposes.
Games
of Chance--What Does the Law Say?
Any organization who holds a game of chance, such as a raffle
or bingo, must register with the Washington State Gambling
Commission to do so. They must also be a nonprofit for at
least two years. If you are planning on holding a raffle or
bingo, you should check with your company's legal department
for detailed information.
You may run
a sweepstakes without a license. If there are any giveaways,
everyone must be allowed to participate, whether they make
a contribution to United Way or not. This meets the sweepstakes
requirements.
Please
contact you Account Executive or Loaned Executive for a copy
of the Gambling License Agreement, or obtain our application
here.
