WHAT IS Youth Leadership Council?
WHAT IS THE YOUTH LEADERSHIP COUNCIL?
Youth Leadership Council is a year-round group of high school aged student leaders from across Pierce County who work together to plan volunteer and outreach projects in your community! The Youth Leadership Council is organized and sponsored by Youth United, part of the United Way of Pierce County. Each council is led by students, and Bethany Opstedal of Youth United acts as the coordinator.
HOW OFTEN DO WE MEET?
There are currently three Youth Leadership Council Chapters in Pierce Country in Tacoma, Puyallup and Bethel. Each chapter meets once a month, and once in awhile the three chapters have a joint meeting.
WHAT KINDS OF SERVICE PROJECTS DO WE ORGANIZE?
This is up to you! As a council, you have the freedom to decide what kinds of service projects would be most meaningful to you and your community. Generally, each council also adopts a family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and spends the fall fundraising and organizing this project. Usually each council (or the councils collectively) also plans a larger service project for the spring.
WHO DO I CONTACT FOR MORE INFORMATION OR TO JOIN THE COUNCIL?
Please contact Bethany Opstedal with the United Way of Pierce County at (253) 597-6685 or at youthunited@uwpc.org to get matched up with the Youth Leadership Council Chapter in your area.
To be part of the Youth Leadership Council, please have your parent or guardian sign a Youth United permission slip. You can return these to Bethany at your next council meeting, or you can mail them to:
