United Way of Pierce County Surpasses Fundraising Goal with Generous Match Donation from U.S. Bank

August 20, 2020, Tacoma, Wash. — United Way of Pierce County is pleased to announce they have surpassed their fundraising goal of $50k for the UWPC4ALICE campaign. U.S. Bank contributed an additional $10K match, bringing the total amount raised to $60K.

The UWPC4ALICE campaign aimed to assist the most vulnerable people in Pierce County, particularly ALICE (Asset Limited Income-Constrained Employed) families during the COVID-19 crisis. COVID-19 has taken a toll on every aspect of our lives and the Pierce County community, and the number of families living paycheck to paycheck is increasing. Additionally, some people need help today who have never needed it before. Gifts made during the UWPC4ALICE campaign were matched by U.S. Bank, $1 for $1, and this match allowed United Way to exceed their initial goal.

“The impacts of COVID-19 have been significant for many individuals and families in Pierce County, especially ALICE families. Our matching grant for the UWPC4ALICE campaign and ongoing support of United Way of Pierce County is just one of the ways we are working to address the longer-term impacts of this pandemic,” said Nicole Bascomb-Green, U.S. Bank Community Affairs Manager for Washington and Idaho.

“United Way of Pierce County recognizes and is so thankful for our U.S. Bank friends and the partnership which has made this possible,” says Dona Ponepinto, United Way of Pierce County CEO. “Thanks to their generosity, we have been able to provide additional assistance during COVID-19 to individuals struggling with poverty in our community.”

“When individuals gain stability, families are stronger, children are more successful and our community thrives. Thanks to U.S. Bank’s support, we are helping to create a compassionate, vital community where people have the education, resources and opportunities to achieve their highest potential,” says Emily Mendez-Bryant, Chief Development Officer.
