BUILDING STRONG FAMILIES 

Families who are economically secure can invest time in their children's education, save for the future and weather financial emergencies. United Way of Pierce County invests in services to help families increase their income through education and job training and effectively manage their finances to pay down debt and increase savings and asset ownership. Families who reach self-sufficiency are better able to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their young children to grow and learn.

OUR GOAL

All families are financial stable and able to meet their basic needs.

United Way of Pierce County is helping to change the story of families with young children living in poverty by partnering with programs to bridge the gap and stabilize families. In addition to funding programs that align with our goals through our three-year funding cycle, we are also partnering on the following efforts:

CENTERS FOR STRONG FAMILIES

United Way of Pierce County’s CENTERS FOR STRONG FAMILIES (CSFs) can help families create a more prosperous future by focusing on workforce development, financial stability, basic needs supports and other family services. TAX ASSISTANCE

Moving families toward financial stability by helping them keep the money they have worked so hard for and make the most of their tax return. One of the ways we are doing this is by connecting them to free tax preparation and tax credits that are available to eligible families. »READ MORE

MILITARY FAMILIES

United Way of Pierce County is making sure the many military families and veterans who call our community home know where to turn for resources. By accessing United Way's military specialist, families are connected to services both on and off base. »READ MORE

WORKING COLLABORATIVELY

United Way believes that change happens when communities work together. We bring people together to make a real difference in the issues the community cares about. We are currently working in collaboration with the following to address issues around family stability:

Pierce County Asset Building Coalition – Developing a countywide financial empowerment and education system to assist and lift families out of poverty. 
 
Tacoma-Pierce County Growth Partnership – Over 60 partners focused on improving family sustaining wages and closing the skills gap in our community.
