Creative Approaches to Reduce Poverty Through Community Engagement
June xx,xxxx, Tacoma, Wash. — Join the challenge! United Way of Pierce County is seeking creative approaches to address community needs via an innovation challenge that provides funding, support and recognition to community-led groups who have big ideas that address that focus on social justice and help mitigate the racial and social inequities that are evident today. We also want to highlight projects that address the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 crisis in our communities.
Big ideas, at a grassroots level, must be designed in collaboration with the people who will use the innovation. There's no better way to understand the hopes and aspirations of those you're designing for than by talking with them directly! In addition, your ideas must consider diversity, equity and inclusion into the decision-making process to help remove disparities among groups for the best possible solutions.
We know there are many individuals and groups who want to create a more economically just and inclusive community, while inspiring a new generation of change-makers. This innovation challenge offers a chance to win a portion of $10,000 to be split between three creative approaches awarded to local community groups.

About United Way of Pierce County
United Way of Pierce County has served our community since 1921. Our history is rooted in partnerships—bringing people from different walks of life together to improve conditions for children, families and individuals. While that will never change, our role as a community fundraiser has shifted as the United Way movement has sharpened our focus to solve key community issues that are preventing people from meeting their full potential. Today we are leading change by breaking the cycle of poverty in Pierce County. UNITED, WE WILL LIFT 15,000 FAMILIES OUT OF POVERTY BY 2028. Learn more at https://www.uwpc.org/
