Every January, communities across the country come together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through service—and this year in Pierce County was no exception.
Thank you to the incredible volunteers, partners, and sponsors who helped make United Way of Pierce County’s MLK Day of Service such a powerful day of impact. Because of you, our community came together to assemble over 3,000 hygiene kits for neighbors experiencing homelessness—each one filled with essential items and messages of encouragement.
These kits were distributed during the Pierce County Homeless Point in Time Count, helping ensure that individuals in our community have access to basic necessities while also receiving a reminder that they are seen, valued, and supported.
Dr. King reminded us that “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” This community answered that question with compassion, generosity, and action.

We’re already looking ahead—stay tuned for MLK Day of Service 2027. We’d love to have you join us again next year as we continue building a stronger, more compassionate Pierce County together.
