Men's Wearhouse Launches 12th Annual Suit Drive

United Way of Pierce County’s Gifts in Kind program, is partnering with Men’s Wearhouse to launch its 12th annual Suit Drive, a month-long initiative that collects gently-used professional clothing for Americans transitioning back into the workforce. Throughout the month of July, donations collected at Men’s Wearhouse stores will be distributed to United Way and more than 150 other local non-profit organizations across the country that help disadvantaged individuals regain employment through job readiness programs and workforce assistance.

South Sound 2-1-1 Secures Prestigious AIRS Accredidation

South Sound 2-1-1, operated by United Way of Pierce County, is a free, easy-to-remember number, available in Pierce, Lewis and Thurston Counties that helps people cut through what can be a confusing and overwhelming maze of information and resources. Recently, South Sound 2-1-1 has demonstrated excellence in the information and referral services field by successfully completing a detailed professional accredidation process administered by the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS).

South Sound Talk: Center for Strong Families Helps Clients “Earn It, Keep It, Grow It” - Kaitlin Armstrong

“Earn it, Keep it, Grow it.” This is the motto at the Center for Strong Families, a United Way of Pierce County initiative that helps families elevate their economic situation through an innovative two-pronged approach. Offering both  employment coaching and financial counseling, the Center for Strong Families helps its clients get a bird’s eye view of their financial picture. By looking at both sides of an economic equation, the program provides clients tools to help grow their careers and confidently manage their income.

Premier Partners Event Highlights the Multiplier Effect of Corporate Partnerships

United Way recognized businesses across Pierce County with a fun and inspiring format at Foss Waterway Seaport in Tacoma on Thursday, September 13. Sponsored by NuStar Energy, U.S. Oil & Refining Company, WestRock and The Boeing Company, the event featured a scavenger hunt, networking and a unique blend of music from Lisa Donovan and Company, as well as a short recognition program. Guest sampled local food and beverage favorites thanks to the generosity of WilRidge Winery & Vineyard, Dystopian State Beer Co., Dave’s Meat and Produce and Corina Bakery & Bistro, Inc.
